About Anita Bartholomew

Anita Bartholomew is a leading freelance writer and editor whose specialties include health, science, social issues, politics, and narrative non-fiction.

She writes primarily for Reader’s Digest, where she has long been a contributor, but her articles have appeared in numerous other major magazines as well including Salon, Good Housekeeping, Jungle magazine (publisher of Anita's 2004 ASJA Outstanding Article Award winner), Omni, 21st C., and Woman’s Day

"A Secret Between Friends," a 1996 TV movie starring Lynda Carter, was inspired by a story of Anita’s that appeared in YM magazine. She was also engaged as a researcher and consultant on the script.

As a developmental and substantive editor, Anita focuses on fiction, narrative non-fiction, and memoir but she has also helped hone prescriptive non-fiction proposals and manuscripts; short stories; and magazine articles. Among the books on which Anita has consulted editorially are the bestselling Strong Women Stay Young (Bantam, 2000); Lung Cancer: Myths, Facts, Choices - and Hope (W.W. Norton, 2002); The Probiotics Revolution (Bantam 2007); and an upcoming work of narrative non-fiction to be published by Guideposts in 2009.

In connection with the promotion of her work, Anita has appeared on TV and radio news and talk shows including Good Day New York, Good Day Tampa Bay, and Maury Povich.

She is currently writing a novel, inspired partly by local legend, about the quirky little house where she lives in Sarasota, Florida.

Anita Bartholomew is a former member of the Board of Directors of the American Society of Journalists and Authors (ASJA), and a member of the National Association of Science Writers (NASW).
